Ancient Remedies founder Dr Deborah Ann Hughes enjoyed an upbringing in the serene landscapes of Switzerland, which instilled in her a profound appreciation for the natural world, including how one could benefit from the medicinal properties of plants. From a young age, she was immersed in the study of Switzerland’s diverse flora, eventually commencing an apprenticeship as a young adult at the integrative natural medicine clinic & school Paramed AG. She later embarked in further natural medicine studies in Australia, where she graduated with excellence in Naturopathy from the Australian Academy of Holistic Medicine in Perth. This early exposure sparked a lifelong passion for natural medicine, leading her to become a dedicated Naturopath and Herbalist with over 15 years of experience.

This zest for the natural world in all its form and function developed into a deeper interest for the sciences, igniting her academic journey. Deborah continued to pursue a doctorate in science, specialising in biology and chemistry at Deakin University, serving in addition as a science lecturer at her alma mater. Her scientific endeavours resulted in multiple published works, collaborations with numerous scientific groups, and guest speaker presentations at various symposia and conferences locally and internationally.

Nevertheless, her passion for natural medicine and the ability to help people with the power of nature has always remained at the core of her heart. Thus, with her vast scientific knowledge and a keen interest in the human physiology, coupled with her appreciation for the ancient wisdoms, Ancient Remedies was born.
